Women’s History Month
March is women’s history month. It is a celebration of all that we as women are and and all that we can be. It was Susan B. Anthony and other suffragettes that we owe our ability to vote, for some to hold political office, and others to consider running for president of our country. Yet, whether female or male, on a more mundane level each of us can think of women who have impacted our lives. Personally, I am indebted to my fourth grade teacher Miss. Wexler who encouraged me and gave me the confidence to excel academically. Mrs. Posner, one of my high school teachers, suggested I major in speech in college and because of her I’ve had a rewarding career as a speech/language pathologist. I in turn taught my students to recognize their strengths and be the best they can. I’m sure we all have significant women who have made a difference in our lives. Just this month I have seen wonderful plays written by women about women who recognized their strengths and capabilities. I saw Gloria, A Life, The Pink Hulk, Fiercely Independent, and Chick Flick, The Musical. Just as the message I have conveyed in my novel, The Unexpected Connection, we as women must value our self worth at all times and circumstances and be strong. March may be the month that highlights our accomplishments, but every day women should be honored in one form or another. Don’t you think so? Do you have a story to share?
